By now, most of you have read about my grandmother. That woman was organized. Luckily, she passed on that trait to my mother as well. I don't know what happened throughout the generations, but in my case, the apple fell far, far away from the tree!

Medicare Supplemental Insurance - Who Knew?

Throughout the years, my mother and grandmother worked as a team to plan for the future. One day, my mom read an article about a woman on Medicare who went to the hospital only to find out that Medicare wouldn't cover the procedure she needed to have done. She immediately called my grandmother, who became concerned.

Both women decided to do some research and get back to one another in a week. After speaking both with friends on Medicare and insurance advisors, they came back with the same conclusion - my grandparents needed Medicare supplemental insurance.

We Shouldn't Need Medicare Coverage, but We Do

In a perfect world, people of retirement age shouldn't need extra Medicare coverage. Those who have retired have paid into the system for most of their working lives and thus should be entitled to receive full medical coverage under Medicare/Medicaid.

Unfortunately, because the cost of health care keeps on skyrocketing, there simply isn't enough money in the system to pay for everyone's medical costs. For this reason, you can purchase Medicare supplement insurance to make sure all of your medical needed are covered.

Grandma Knows Best? When it Comes to Insurance

I wish I would have been blessed with my grandmother's gift of forethought and sensibility, but alas, I have to muddle through in a confused state much like everyone else. Fortunately, however, I do share my Grandmother's knowledge of insurance and its importance to us.

If you're of retirement age, it seems like buying Medicare insurance is a good bet. If you don't believe me, ask my Grandmother!
